Timanfaya, or the Mountains of Fire, is a nature park housing twenty-five still active volcanoes. Classified as a Biosphere Reserve by Unesco, it transports you to another planet, which is of course much warmer.

The landscape consists of stones upon stones and arid, desolate mountains, some of which are red, aubergine or orange coloured. Every now and then a green bush or a thin layer of vegetation can be seen, springing up after a sudden burst of rain. Travelling across this area of Lanzarote almost becomes an experience from another world.  It is only by looking at the sky that we realise this wonderful place does in fact belong to the Earth.
