A tree of imposing appearance, as tall and elegant as it is long-living – up to three hundred years – the Canary Island date palm, which is common on all seven islands, is one of the Nature symbols of the archipelago.
On star-studded nights you cannot help but gaze at this majestic, almost mythical palm of austere beauty, which is a great provider of sap known as guarapo, used for the famous palm honey from La Gomera; of small orange coloured fruit called támaras which is ideal ammunition for children’s battles; and of fronds used by the island’s street sweepers as brooms.
