Las Canteras, one of the best urban beaches in Europe, is a long stretch of golden sand located right in the heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and is visited by many people throughout the whole year.
More than 3 kilometres in length, this privileged beach is protected by a natural reef called La Barra, which, in times past, was exploited as a quarry. The reef runs parallel to the shore providing a barrier against the Atlantic waves.
On the other side is the Paseo de Las Canteras, a lively promenade with shops, hotels and outdoor restaurants, along which there is always an endless stream of runners and walkers who do not want to miss the best sunsets imaginable – offset by Teide on the horizon.
